Conference Recap

2026 CPAK Conference was held March 16, 2026 at the University of Louisville

Titled Golden Horizons: Celebrating 50 Years; Building a Bright Future, the conference marked a significant milestone as attendees gathered to celebrate 50 years of CPAK’s impact on student affairs across Kentucky. The event provided an opportunity to honor the organization’s history, reflect on its growth and contributions, and explore the future of higher education within the Commonwealth.

Instead of a traditional keynote speaker, the conference featured a panel of past CPAK Presidents who reflected on their professional experiences, the evolution of higher education, and perspectives on the future of the field. The panel was facilitated by Aaron Hughey (WKU) and included:

  • Angela Taylor (UofL)
  • Leslie Maxie (Bellarmine)
  • Michael Covert (Transylvania).

Hall of Fame – Class of 2026

Established in 20128, the CPAK Hall of Fame Gallery of Outstanding Educators and Professionals honors exceptional colleagues across the Commonwealth who have served their institutions, as well as state, regional, and national associations, through leadership, commitment, and service. Inductees are recognized annually at the CPAK Conference and Hall of Fame Ceremony.

2026 CPAK Award Winners

The conference recognized outstanding professionals in student affairs through three distinguished awards that highlight emerging talent, sustained service, and innovation across the Commonwealth. These awards honor individuals who demonstrate excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to advancing the field of higher education.

Outstanding Emerging Professional Award: Recognizes early-career professionals (within their first three years) who have made meaningful contributions at the campus, state, or regional level.

  • AJ McGillivray (WKU)

Dr. Fred Rhodes Outstanding Service Award: Honors experienced professionals (5+ years) who have demonstrated sustained impact, leadership, and service in the field.

  • Samantha MacKenzie (UofL)

Innovator Award: Celebrates professionals who have introduced creative, impactful ideas or programs that advance student affairs and benefit their campus or community.
