History of CPAK

Sine 1976, our association has held a rich history of inclusion, celebration, scholarship, and friendship.

2022CPAK held it’s annual conference on April 7, 2022. After virtual conference in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CPAK was glad to be able to return to an in-person event.

The 2022-2023 CPAK EC met for the first time on May 24, 2022 for the 2022 Transition Meeting. It was a great opportunity for our officers to get to know one another and refresh ourselves on CPAK and ACPA’s mission and purpose. Below is a list of our 2022 – 2023 Executive Committee.

2021Our annual CPAK conference and business meeting was held virtually the first week of February 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions on travel during this time.  Our Hall of Fame event was not held in 2021 and no colleagues were inducted into our CPAK Hall of Fame.

2020CPAK received the award for Outstanding ACPA Chapter and LIndsay Smith (Western Governors University) received the award for Outstanding ACPA Chapter Leader at the ACPA 2020 National Convention held in Nashville, TN.

Our annual conference, business meeting and 3rd annual Hall of Fame Recognition Ceremony was held on January 26, 2020 at Northern Kentucky University. Keynote speaker was current ACPA President, Craig Elliott.

2019CPAK received the award for Outstanding ACPA Chapter at ACPA 2019 National Convention held in Boston, MAThe CPAK Executive Committee created and approved the Development & Fundraising Coordinator and appointed, Kevin Reynolds of Thomas More University. CPAK gave two presentations at the KARH Conference at Morehead State and served on the conference committee for the second year in a row for the 8th annual Dialogue on Diversity held this year at Spalding University.

Rhodes Outstanding Service Award: Pam Curtis, University of Louisville and Dr. Michael Mardis, University of Louisville; New Professional Award: Alli Lake, University of Kentucky; Innovator Award: Natasha Ramsey, Midway University; Dr. Michael Cuyjet Outstanding Graduate Student Award: Elaine Surdyke, University of Louisville.

CPAK also collaborated to assist on the conference committee with the 7th annual Dialogue on Diversity conference held in Louisville, KY.

This was the first year for our Hall of Fame ceremony recognizing higher education professionals in the Commonwealth who have served their respective institutions, the state, region and/or national association through leadership and service. This year’s inaugural Hall of Fame Recognition ceremony was held at Transylvania University and the class included: Dr. Don Gehring, Wm. 2016In 2016, the association redefined the operating values to align with ACPA.  A product of this work was CPAK’s first Strategic Plan for Equity and Inclusion.  Through this plan, the role of Coordinator for Equity and Inclusion was approved for 2017.  CPAK collaborated to host the Careers in Student Affairs conference with KAHO (Kentucky Association of Housing Officers). 

At the 2017 ACPA Convention, CPAK was recognized with the Outstanding Membership Award for work during 2016.

2015In 2015, CPAK saw its first year as an affiliated internal chapter of ACPA College Student Educators International.  The annual conference was held at Centre College on January 28 and 29, 2016, with featured speakers Jason L. Meriwether, Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs at Indiana University Southeast, and Dr. Aaron Thompson, Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer for the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.  The conference featured twenty educational sessions, a SSAO panel, and a dessert social at Cue on Main.  During this closing business meeting of the conference, the new positions of regional representatives were approved, replacing members at large. 

Annual award winners included Randy Hays, Centre College (Fred W. Rhodes Outstanding Service Award); Candace Lamb, University of Louisville (New Professional Award); Dr. Eugene Foster, University of Louisville (Innovator Award); and Hannah Steen, University of Louisville (Dr. Michael Cuyjet Outstanding Graduate Student Award).

2014The annual conference was held in conjunction with SACSA, hosted this year in Louisville, Kentucky.  During the conference, the CPAK Executive Committee officially signed the affiliation agreement with ACPA designating Kentucky as an internal chapter of the association, also now known as ACPA Kentucky.
